Usually when you perform a search in Google, results will appear with a title, description or copy and a URL. Every now and then you’ll see a result with a number of other links below it – these are called Google Site Links.

Site Links are generated by Google’s algorithm so no-one really knows how they work or what you need to do to get them. As you can see not every search returns results with these Site Links, but they tend to appear for very authoritative sites that have held good rankings for a long time.

Below is an example of a website (The Bub Hub) appearing in Google's search pages with Site Links:-

So how do you go about getting Google to add these groovy little Site Links to your site? Here are a few points that many SEO experts consider to be the main influencing factors:-

  1. If your website has retained the number one position for a particular keyword for the last 1 – 2 years this seems to be a consideration.
  2. Typically a website must be around three years old – sites younger than this do not usually get Site Links.
  3. Websites with large volumes of traffic tend to have Site Links more so than smaller websites.
  4. Backlinks to your site along with a high Page Rank indicate that your site is trusted by Google and is an authoritative website.

If your website meets all of these points, then you stand a good chance of Site Links appearing on Google’s results pages.

Not only will your website be holding the number one position, but you’ll have the added value of Site Links bringing a great deal more traffic to your site, which will hopefully result in more conversions.
